The luxurious Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort & Spa in Malaysian Borneo is set to unveil new immersive guest experiences available on 1st July 2018.
It comes as part of the re-development of the protected 64-acre nature reserve in Sabah. The innovative recreational proposition will enhance the reserve’s conservation education programme and introduce a range of new cultural and adventure experiences for guests.
The reserve is nestled within Shangri-La Ras Ria’s 400 acres of tropical jungle, watched over by Sabah’s iconic Mount Kinabalu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In terms of species, it is home to the Long-tailed Macaques, Western Tarsiers, Bearcats and the famous huge-eyed Slow Loris, plus over 60 types of Birds, various kinds of Butterflies, Pangolins and a wide spectrum of native plants if that wasn’t sufficient.
The Discovery Centre, which will sit at the heart of Rasa Ria Reserve, will educate guests about the indigenous wildlife and plants through interactive exhibits.
Constructed with environmentally sustainable materials and designed to capture the essence of the rainforest, it will be a gateway to the reserve’s unique trail system that covers five miles of walks through the tropical jungle.
Six walking trails will individually showcase a different side to the tropical jungle from entomology to herbs, native, adventure, wildlife and canopy, offering up to two hours per walk of exploration, learning and fun.
A new natural rain watering hole will enhance the local wildlife’s habitat as well as provide the perfect look-out spot in which to spot nocturnal animals, including the Pangolin. Set in the midst of the Rasa Ria Reserve, it will encourage local wildlife, who roam freely across the 64-acre reserve, to feed and take water, creating a magical experience for visitors.
The viewing summit platform on Mount Kinabalu will also double in size to offer more visitors the opportunity to sample the early morning sunrise hike with continental breakfast on the summit deck for stunning views across the Tambalang River and Shangri-La’s very own 10-hole championship golf course, namely the Dalit Bay Golf & Country Club.
For the ultimate wedding breakfast, couples will be able to enjoy an intimate celebration for up to 20 guests.
Designed for fun-seekers of all ages, Adventure Point, nestled in the heart of the rainforest, is designed to reflect the natural routes taken by the native animals of Borneo.
Similarly, for younger visitors, the handcrafted Rasa Ria playground will give children the ultimate playground with a 10m snake tunnel slide. An obstacle course with aerial net tunnels, a treehouse with a swing and a 30m junior zipline with two zips for competitions.
Locals will share their deep, personal understanding and passion for traditions to showcase the rich culture and heritage of the local tribes of Sabah. Guests are submerged in a celebration with authentic dishes such as Kueh Penjaram (dessert), Hinava (main), and Pakis Vegetable served alongside a traditional dance for an evening of entertainment. Local craftspeople will also be providing authentic crafting gifts to help create some unforgettable memories.
