‘All happiness depends on a breakfast’ William Somerset Maugham once said. And whether you’re breaking your fast at the crack of dawn or at brunch time, the saying can still be applied. And happiness is definitely at the heart of Corinthia Hotel London with its offering of the free flowing Laurent Perrier Sunday Brunch at The Northall.
Staff are already stocking up on the fizz which guests can drink as much as they want, with the brunch extended to Boxing Day. Catching up with friends and family over the festive season, lingering over a few glasses of bubbly, can take an interesting turn, and a far cry from the traditional day of eating leftovers from Christmas Day.
The Northall can definitely be described as showcasing the breadth of British culinary strengths with a menu offering good quality seasonal vegetables and ingredients with an extensive organic wine list to match. The interior has a 1930s opulence feel with an air of the great Gatsby.
Dining to the tune of a live jazz band in a chic atmosphere makes for great dining when you have three courses to go through. The music is perfectly pitched and played at a non intrusive volume. The walls are adorned with either floor to ceiling windows or with mirrors facing in different directions helping to reflect the room in a creative way. Silver monochrome lamps dotted around the venue further enhance the mood. The beige soft leather seating is incredibly comfortable. Just as well. You know you’ll be sitting there for a very long time when you’re having to flick through the extensive menu for a good ten minutes before you even have a chance to glance at the wine list.
You can find everything on the beautifully presented menu from yoghurt and summer berry compote through to potted shrimps followed by anything from a full roast to a smoked haddock risotto or even the decadent grilled half of lobster. To complete the brunch, my personal favourite was the milk chocolate and hazelnut bar with salted pop corn ice-cream and caramel popcorn.
Friendly and courteous staff are on hand to offer their advice on dishes as well as help with any dietary requirements you may have. Attention to detail is impeccable, the wine glasses match the make of the champagne and we even had a choice of two different butters to accompany our freshly baked warm crusty bread.
The Northall was a truly elegant brunch experience and I can definitely envisage this being a Sunday treat in the not too distant future.
The Northall at Corinthia Hotel London offers three courses at £35 or add in free-flowing champagne for a total of £65.
