Triumph is launching two new Bonneville bikes for 2021; the T120 & T120 Black models. Jeremy Webb investigates what these two beauties have to offer for the ever-growing legion of bike fans worldwide.
Triumph motorcycles are once more leading the way in the fast-moving and ever-changing motorcycle industry. The Triumph name is about as iconic as they come, but only relatively small numbers of people were buying their machines, leaving them sometimes overshadowed by other manufacturers.
All this has changed with Triumph’s significant investment in new technology. This Great British brand is once more commanding global respect thanks to continuous innovation and the high-quality of its products.
Building on the increased demand, Triumph has launched the New 2021 Bonneville T120 and T120 Black with enhanced performance, updated EURO 5 compliant 1200cc High Torque twin-engine, which is more responsive with lower emissions. The Bonneville DNA runs through all the upgrades for 2021, delivering a new benchmark for timeless character and easy riding capability.
With an enhanced handling set-up, due to significant 7kg weight saving. New lightweight aluminium wheel rims and new higher specification Brembo brakes aid the improvement. Triumph has added new rider technology, including cruise control, enhanced riding modes and even more responsive throttle.
105 Nm of peak torque at a very low 3500 rpm is obtained from the 1200cc engine; its power peaks 80 PS at 6,550 RPM. The upgraded 2021 engine exceeds EURO 5 requirements, giving lower emissions than the previous generation and excellent fuel economy.
A dedicated button on the handlebar allows the rider to set the Cruise Control. All functions on the T120 are user friendly for the rider. Rain and Road riding modes adapt the bike’s behaviour according to the rider’s requirements in changing conditions.
Included as standard is a torque-assist clutch, which reduces rider fatigue in heavy traffic or on longer journeys; an engine immobiliser is incorporated into the key. A handy under-seat USB charging socket and the internal wiring ready to plug in the accessory fit heated grips.
A distinctive LED daytime running light sits within the Headlight so the bike can be seen by other road users. The twin clock set-up has a new premium 3D dial face with Bonneville branding and traditional typeface and colours.
The multi-functional digital display provides the rider with all necessary information, such as riding mode settings, cruise control status, gear position indicator and much more. It is all controlled through the intuitive and easily accessible scroll button mounted on the handlebar.
The fuel tank remains iconic through its sculpted design, with knee pads. It carries a new 3-bar heritage chromed metal badge, adding a contemporary styling touch to the already unmistakeable T120. Premium chrome finishes have been used throughout, maintaining the timeless signature style. The mirrors, mudguard stay, indicators, silencers, handlebars, headlamp bezel and filler cap all get the treatment.
Contrast piping is featured on the seat, which has a ribbed top and carries an embossed Triumph logo. On the mean and moody Bonneville T120 Black, you get a host of premium blacked-out details and components, including wheel rims, grab rail, engine covers, mirrors, headlamp bezel, indicators, and exhaust, plus a stylish brown bench seat with embossed Triumph logo.
Three stylish colour schemes are available, including a Jet Black single colour option or two twin colour schemes. Cordovan Red and Silver Ice and the Cobalt Blue and Silver Ice both feature hand-painted gold lining.
T120 Black has two options, Jet Black or a sophisticated Matt Jet Black and Matt Graphite scheme with hand-painted silver coach lining.
